Nick took the patent bar in 2015 and began working as a patent agent for Davidson, Berquist, Jackson & Gowdey, LLP in McLean, Virginia. He drafted and filed patent applications in augmented reality, software, business methods, information technology, and seismic measurements fields. He drafted responses and motions in state and federal district courts, prepared license agreements, and worked on many patent, copyright, and trademark cases.

In 2016 Nick decided to go to law school full-time and graduated from George Mason University, Antonin Scalia Law School, where he was a member of the George Mason Law Review, the Intellectual Property Law Society, and the Trial Advocacy Association. He also studied European patent law and practiced in Munich, Germany and Geneva, Switzerland during a summer semester abroad. He was a judicial intern for the Honorable Chief Judge Susan Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C. where he wrote judicial opinions and orders for numerous patent infringement, military pay, takings, and pro se cases.
After law school, he was hired as an associate attorney at Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck, a patent litigation firm representing biopharmaceutical and high-tech electronics companies. After moving to Texas, he practiced construction and related contract law until he joined Lucé Evans Law where he handles civil litigation, probate, probate litigation, real estate, and business law.
Originally from Ohio, Nick attended the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. Nick continued to serve our country for 16 years and had significant responsibility in planning and executing military operations, enforcing federal law and international treaties, and was a Commanding Officer of a U.S. warship. He attended graduate school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and as a Civil Engineer he designed structural foundations and gained extensive federal contracting experience and worked with federal and state regulatory agencies. He directed Deepwater Horizon oil spill recovery operations in Louisiana and oversaw re-establishing Coast Guard critical bases and infrastructure around New York City following Hurricane Sandy.
Later stationed at headquarters in Washington, D.C. as a budget officer, Nick was responsible for every detail of a $1.3B portion of the President’s annual federal budget submission. He counseled senior executives including the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Commandant of the Coast Guard regarding resource and operational planning and was then provided the resources and authority to carry out the organization’s plans. He regularly briefed members of Congress, worked with House and Senate oversight committees, and drafted legislation.
