1. Always Follow Court Orders
When you have a court order listing the things you must do (or not do), follow those instructions. They are not recommendations or suggestions; they are a must do list. Not following a court order can lead to some very negative consequences. If you feel like a change is needed in the orders, or you would like clarification, speak to your attorney.
2. Always Pay Child Support
It is very important to always pay your child support on time. While it may sometimes feel that the amount you are paying is going directly to the other person’s benefit, you need to understand that the money is being used for the day-to-day expenses for your child while they are with the other parent. Never withhold child support as punishment or as leverage. If circumstances have significantly changed in your ability to pay, contact your attorney to request a modification.
3. Be Mindful of Social Media
Remember that social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr are a public forum. While a lot of attorneys would tell their clients to avoid social media as a whole, this is not always realistic. Just be wary of what you post online. As a rule of thumb, never post illegal activity, extremist views, nude photos, drug abuse, or hot topic posts that may be taken out of context. Also it is in your best interest to not post negative things about the other parent or spouse on social media platforms.
